Our ZonES

At Essence we create a supportive and caring environment for all ages and abilities. We are here to help people who are joining a gym for the first time, to the person who has been lifting weights for years and wants to see better results from their training.

Cardio Zone

Cardio exercise is any exercise that raises your heart rate. Our bodies were made to move and we all know that to keep our muscles in shape we need to move them. This movement makes them stronger and stronger muscles make for a more efficient and healthy body. Your heart is a muscle. Therefore working it makes it stronger. A stronger cardio-vascular system means more capillaries delivering more oxygen to cells in your muscles. This enables your cells to burn more fat during both exercise and inactivity.

Free Weight ZONE

There are many reasons for including strength training into your fitness program.

Not only does strength training increase your physical work capacity, it also improves your ability to perform day to day activities. You will be able to work harder and longer with the proper weight training activities.

It improves bone density. One of the best ways you can control bone loss as you age is to add strength training into your workout plan.

It promotes fat-free body mass without loss of muscle mass as the lean muscle mass. The lean muscle mass that we all work so hard for decreases with age. If we don’t add strength training to our routine then it will turn into fat.

It increases the strength of connective tissue, muscles, and tendons. This leads to improved motor performance and decreased injury risk.

It improves your quality of life as you gain body confidence. Strength training will not only make you strong, but will also help with managing your weight.

Functional Training Zone

Functional training allows you to work your muscles on different planes (hitting different angles) and building strength in those “stabilizer” muscles as well as the main target muscle. Machines are pre-set using only the muscle and angle that the machine allows. Multi-plane exercises are more complex movements and more closely mimic movements that are used in everyday life.

Pin Loaded Weight Training

Training with pin loaded machines is an easy, safe and effective way of getting all the benefits of weight training (see free weights page) without the difficulty of handling free weights.

We recommend this as a good starting point for people new to weight training and a good base training for more experienced people. Moving on to training with free weights and cables may be an applicable progression.
